Solo female travel in Puerto Escondido as a digital nomad

I have always had a passion for traveling, since I was little in my family we have had the tradition of traveling at least twice a year. I always wanted to do it alone but I couldn't find the perfect moment, so I let the moment and the destination choose me .

Thanks to my 100% remote job, I had the opportunity to leave the room in my house where I usually work every day and get a change of scenery. 

Investigating, I discovered Puerto Escondido, a place where hundreds of digital nomads gather to work during the day, take surf classes later, make friends from all over the world and dance until sunrise. I knew that one of the best ways to experience Puerto Escondido was staying in a hostel. The truth was that I was a little worried because it was my first solo trip. I had a thousand questions going through my mind, how do I approach to make friends? Will my English flow perfectly to connect with someone? Am I safe going alone?

So luckily I found Greether, thanks to the platform I was able to connect with my Greeter, Summer! She is amazing and also a super interesting person. She picked me up at the airport and took me directly to my hostel because I had to work a few hours. 

The atmosphere in the hostel and in the co-working space is super cool! You are working but you don't feel like it, you are with people from all over the world who are super relaxed, each one on their own business, with the best sense of humor, you are one street away from the beach!

 I would really live it a thousand times more, later I met Summer again, she proposed to show me the area from her truck while we talked and she gave me more tips on how to live the best 4 days in Puerto Escondido, the way was super fun, I was literally having a local friend in Zicatela. Then we went to a very local mezcal tasting, not touristy, it is one of the best things about having a Greeter, because it helps you to get to know a city authentically, taking you to places that are unusual for tourists. In the end we went to a viewpoint to see the sunset, super beautiful and hidden that very few people know, that moment was incredible and it is something that I am also dying to relive. My experience with Greether and my Greeter left me 100% satisfied, I loved that even though I had to work, I was able to connect with someone who adapted to my times and not have to be the one who adapted to the times of a common tourist tour.

Going back to my solo experience in Puerto, I would like to share some tips:

1. Do not drink water that is not bottled, seriously!

2. Do not forget to go to Playa Carrizalillo, it is one of the beaches where you can swim and it is really beautiful, the stairs are a bit heavy to climb but it is totally worth it!

3. The nightlife is super cool and safe, and it lasts until sunrise and it's a lot of fun, I totally recommend it.

4. Someone I met there told me that “something magical always had to happen to you when you go to Puerto Escondido for the first time”, and she didn't lie, so flow and let yourself be surprised!

5. Make sure you go release turtles! It is a beautiful experience and you’ll help ecotourism a lot.

6. Open up to meet new people, talk to everyone, we all have something interesting to talk about.

Viajando sola a Puerto Escondido como nómada digital

Siempre he tenido una pasión por viajar, desde que era pequeña en mi familia hemos tenido la tradición de viajar por lo menos 2 veces al año, siempre quise hacerlo sola pero no encontraba el momento perfecto, entonces dejé que el momento y el destino me eligiera. 

Gracias a mi trabajo 100% remoto tenía la oportunidad de salir del cuarto en mi casa donde suelo trabajar diario y cambiar un poco de aires, investigando descubrí Puerto Escondido, un lugar donde cientos de digital nomads se concentran para trabajar por el día, tomar clases de surf más tarde, hacer amigos de todas partes del mundo y bailar hasta el amanecer. Sabía que una de las mejores formas de vivir Puerto Escondido era quedándome en un hostal, la verdad me preocupaba un poco porque era mi primer viaje, tenía mil preguntas pasando por mi mente, ¿cómo me acerco para hacer amigos? ¿Mi inglés fluirá perfecto para tener conexión con alguien? ¿Estoy segura yendo sola? 

Entonces, por suerte descubrí Greether, gracias a la plataforma pude conectar con mi Greeter, Summer! Ella es increíble y es una persona súper interesante, me recogió en el aeropuerto y me llevó directo a mi hostal ya que yo tenía que trabajar unas horas.

El ambiente en el hostal y en el espacio de co-working es súper cool! Estás trabajando pero no lo sientes como tal, estás con gente de todo el mundo súper relajada, cada quien en su tema, con el mejor humor, estás a una calle de la playa! Realmente lo viviría mil veces más. En la tarde me volví a encontrar con Summer me propuso mostrarme la zona desde su camioneta mientras platicábamos y me daba más tips de cómo vivir los mejores 4 días en Puerto Escondido. El camino estuvo súper divertido, literalmente estaba teniendo una amiga local en Zicatela. Después nos dirigimos a una cata de mezcales muy local, cero turística, es una de las mejores cosas de tener una Greeter, porque te ayuda a conocer auténticamente una ciudad, llevándote a lugares que son poco comunes para los turistas. Al final fuimos a un mirador a ver el atardecer, súper lindo y escondido que muy pocas personas conocen, ese momento fue increíble y es algo que también muero por volver a vivir. Mi experiencia con Greether y mi Greeter me dejó 100% satisfecha, me encantó que aunque tenía que trabajar, pude conectar con alguien que se adecuara a mis tiempos y no tener que yo ser la que se adecuara a los tiempos de un tour turístico común. 

Volviendo a mi experiencia sola en Puerto me gustaría compartir algunos tips: 

1. No tomes agua que no sea embotellada, ¡en serio! 

2. No te olvides de ir a Playa Carrizalillo, es una de las playas en donde sí se puede nadar y es hermosa, las escaleras son un poco pesadas al subirlas pero vale totalmente la pena! 

3. La vida nocturna es súper cool y segura, y dura hasta el amanecer y es muy divertido, lo recomiendo.

4. Alguien que conocí allá me comentó que siempre al ir por primera vez a Puerto Escondido debía pasar algo mágico, y no mintió, así que fluye y déjate sorprender! 

5. ¡Asegurate de ir a liberar tortugas! Es una experiencia hermosa y ayudas muchísimo al ecoturismo. 

6. Ábrete a conocer nuevas personas, platica con quien puedas, todos tenemos algo interesante que contar.
