Q&A with Monique

Please share a bit about you:

I’m a retired French Immersion teacher. Travelled quite extensively in Europe but also some traveling in Morocco, Turkey, and Indonesia. Love to take classes when traveling. Love Latin American culture and I speak fluent Spanish. Love Art and Music

Why did you decide to book a Greeter in Mexico City?

I have a high opinion of Greether, it’s fantastic that I truly appreciated it while in Mexico City!

I decided to book a Greeter in Mexico City because I  was spending three weeks in this huge city and I value the insights of a native local guide. I felt a bit uneasy visiting the Centro Historico by myself. The Greeter approach seemed perfect for me: women helping women in a relaxed and friendly way.

How did you find out about Greether?

I found out about Greether through a blog called “Female Travellers in Mexico“ on Facebook. An interesting blog with good advice.
What do you think your Greeter helped you the most with?

My Greeter, Cecilia, helped me to feel safe and knew exactly where to take me to make my visit enjoyable. She respected my interests and my rhythm.

Were there things that your Greeter showed you that made your experience better?

Cecilia was very professional, she gave me a lot of information on the History behind all the sites we visited. She is a cultivated guide who can discuss various topics like Mexican society and culture. She also had been to my country, Canada. We had great chats!

Why would you recommend booking a Greeter in Mexico City?

I recommend booking a Greeter in Mexico City because the city can be quite overwhelming to visit by yourself. A Greeter will give you tips to make your stay easier, safe and… memorable!

Anything else you want to share that may be useful for more women who want to explore the city like you did?

I would like to add a few tips for women traveling alone in Mexico City:

  1. Research safe zones of the city on Travel blogs on Pinterest, they have tons of information.

  2. Be aware of your surroundings, and don’t walk by yourself at night.

  3. Uber is the best way to get around: safe, reliable, and cheap.

  4. Museums are great to visit by yourself. Mexico City has over 140 to choose from.

  5. All the ones I visited: Museo Nacional de Culturas Populares, Museo Diego Rivera Anahuacalli, Museo Frida Kahlo (Casa Azul), Museo Nacional de Antropología y Historia,

  6. Museo Soumaya, Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo, and Palacio Iturbide were all outstanding. Don’t miss out!

  7. Also recommend La Cineteca Nacional if you are an Art Movie buff. Incredible place

Will you use Greether on your future trips? If so, where?

I haven’t decided if I want to use Greether again soon as I go on all sorts of trips, sometimes with friends, sometimes with an organized group, sometimes by myself. But as I’m studying Portuguese, I’m thinking of eventually going to Brazil and would definitely book a Greether in Rio.

Also, I will recommend Greether to my friends!
